This presentation will focus on OSHA’s roles and activities in protecting the safety and health of response and recovery workers during responses to natural and man-made disasters including OSHA’s roles and authorities under the OSH Act, the National Response Framework, and the National Contingency Plan. It will include an overview of safety and health hazards common to disasters, along with discussion of OSHA’s responses to various disasters, including the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant incident, Hurricane Sandy, West Texas chemical explosion, tornadoes, floods, and mudslides.
