Level of Course: Mid
The EHS trainer enters the training room with 25 bored operators, waiting to – once again - be lectured about respirator training. Half of the class pulls out their cell phones and stares at their social media news feed, while the instructor fumbles with cords to try to get the LCD to work. Finally she gets it connected, opens her 50 slide presentation that she showed last year, sighs with an apology thrown in, and begins the lecture.
If you are a “seasoned” professional like me…and by seasoned, I mean – "been around the block", or, okay – just old, LOL – you know that effective communication and “story-telling” is becoming a lost art. Ineffective instructors are wasting valuable corporate training dollars. As a result, webinars – one way communicative training platforms - are becoming the norm as an alternative to listening to bad instructors.
The objective of this one hour session is to challenge the attendees to critique their own skills of EHS communication, especially when it coming to instructing the work force. This session will review effective instructional techniques with the use of story telling, and will video stream “what not to do” scenarios. Using humor coupled with her serious passion for safety – the instructor will share her secrets for effective communication. Attendees should expect… an unusual session.
