There are three things an age instructor cannot avoid: death, taxes, and lesson plans! The lesson plan is as necessary for instruction as a scalpel is for surgery; it is the instructor's road map. Some say that a highly detailed plan is needed so that any instructor – even one not familiar with the subject matter – can teach from it. A nice idea, but just not true! There is no substitute for instructor competency in what they teach. The well-prepared lesson plan, though, will allow the competent instructor to present information that is challenging to the student and effective for learning
