Certified Hazardous Materials Professional (CHMP) Overview Course

The Southern California Education and Research Center (a NIOSH ERC) at UCLA is currently developing a new three day overview course to help prepare hazardous materials professionals for the rigorous CHMP examination. The outline of the new course will follow the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management’s CHMP exam blueprint. Course content includes the following modules:
1.     Identification, Handling, Shipment of Hazardous Materials in Compliance with Applicable US Federal Laws & Regulations
2.     Management of Emergencies & Incidents
3.     Sampling and Analysis
4.     Site Investigation and Remediation
5.     Program and Project Management
In addition to the above course modules, a significant portion of the course will include a review of basic science and math skills. Sample course modules and insights with regard to how to make the new course relevant to CHMP exam candidates will be presented.
