The focus on “Going Green” is all the rage these days.  Brownfields remediation offers an opportunity to start the process at the beginning of a property transaction.

Brownfields remediation differs somewhat from conventional risk-based clean-ups.  The voluntary program creates a partnership between regulator, property owner, and environmental consultant that permits flexibility in how a site achieves remedial objectives mandated by law.  General information about Brownfields remediation is presented along with details about the Georgia program including the benefits for property owners, criteria for eligibility, and risk based remedial end points.  Information about the “typical” Brownfields property is offered.

The second part of the presentation outlines a recent success story that combined remediation “brownfields-style” with plans for a LEED certified residential development where the partnership between regulator and property owner was critical in addressing unexpected site conditions in real time and creatively resolving concerns while preserving a tight construction schedule.
