scope/objectives While auditing Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) at numerous industrial facilities, several findings reoccur on audit reports.  The presentation will review No Exposure Certifications, periodic inspections, annual compliance evaluations, outfalls, sample collection and other portions of SWPPPs.  Often deficiencies may arise from poorly developed plans, failure to make effective assignments or unrealistic implementation.  The presentation will focus on the findings and provide recommendations for effective SWPPP implementation.

methods Self-auditing or in-house auditing techniques will be reviewed as an efficient, cost effective method for identifying weak or failing programs.

developments/results

A fully implemented, well developed SWPPP can be a useful tool for substantially reducing storm water pollution and simultaneously achieving regulatory compliance.

conclusions

Using awareness of common audit findings coupled with a diligent self auditing program, SWPPPs can fulfill their intended purpose – to eliminate storm water pollution from industrial point sources.
