Monday, August 28, 2017: 10:15 AM-11:15 AM
Sundance 3 (Omni Fort Worth)

Level of Course: Mid

A discussion of the application of iron activated persulfate to address a large dissolved phase ethanol plume at a former derailment site. Remedial objective is to reduce VOC concentration while limiting methane generation, a common by product of ethanol degradation. Project site is a train derailment location with a release of denatured ethanol. Site is currently in the remediation phase with one round of persulfate injection completed to date. Currently conducting quarterly monitoring to determine effectiveness of persulfate injection. Presentation will include a history of the site, summary of remedial activities to date, and an analysis of the effectiveness of the persulfate in reducing ethanol concentrations in groundwater.
