Level of Course: Entry
Overview of the “Toyota House” as a framework for Lean, with examples of what this means for Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS).
At the end of this talk, you will:
- Have followed the "Toyota House" diagram of its (Lean) Toyota Production System (TPS) from the foundation, the Philosophy (a 100 year vision, anyone?) to the resulting triple bottom line (the roof) of highest quality, lowest cost, shortest time to market, with a quick overview of the "systems" in between, including:
Visual management
Scalability and stability
Leveled production
Just in Time
In-Station Quality
People and Teamwork
Waste Reduction
- Understand the "house" analogy, where each of the components of the TPS is like one of the systems in a house (which do you get to leave out, the plumbing or electrical? the answer of course is neither)
- Have a sufficient understanding of the overall TPS and how it relates to EHS that you can begin evaluating the potential for Lean initiatives in your EHS activities.
This talk is for those who either want an overview of what Lean is and how it might apply to their EHS activities, or those who already have a basic understanding of Lean and want to get a more solid understanding of the interaction of the components so they can improve their existing program.
