Biographical Sketch: Denise Matthews is the Director of the OSHA Office of Emergency Management and Preparedness in Washington, DC. She has led and coordinated OSHA’s responses to natural and manmade disasters including the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant incident, Hurricane Sandy response, West Texas chemical explosion, tornadoes, floods, mudslides, and other incidents. Before joining OSHA she served in the Coast Guard specializing in marine safety, safety and occupational health, and emergency preparedness and response. She holds a B.S. in Chemistry with High Honors from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and a Master of Science in Public Health, Industrial Hygiene specialty, from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
