Biographical Sketch: Tambra M. Dunams, Ph.D. joined the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in April 2010. She received her B.S. from Georgia State University in 1982 and her Ph.D. from Emory University in Atlanta Georgia in 1988. Upon completing her Ph.D., she was awarded a NIH post-doctoral research fellowship in the National Institute of Cancer in the Lab of Comparative Carcinogenesis. At the NIH NCI LCC, she identified several potential carcinogenic paths and was granted several patents in this area. Dr. Dunams then joined the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) where she set up TVA’s Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and Superfund Environmental laboratory. Later, she supported the U.S. Army chemical warfare agent disposal program for nearly 20 years. She managed the Southwest Research Institute Chemical Agent Laboratory on Johnston Atoll for 5 years. While managing the laboratory many of analytical procedures were developed and are still in use by various organizations such as US Environmental Protection Agency and US Department of Homeland Security. She also provided oversight of all laboratory operations for the US Army Chemical Material Agency. She has consulted for many organizations to include the US Army, Shaw Environmental Inc., and URS Corporation. Prior to joining the CDC full time as Health Scientist/Chemist, she served as a consultant for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for 10 years.
