Biographical Sketch: Maureen Handler received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1986. She began her career working as a field engineer in western New York on the investigation of hazardous waste sites. In 1988 she joined the staff of Laidlaw Environmental overseeing the remediation of superfund sites dealing mostly with drums of unknown hazardous wastes. After leaving Laidlaw, she joined the staff of Groundwater Technologies in Atlanta, GA working on remedial investigations and the implementation of remedial designs for various industrial clients. In 1994, she joined the staff of Marion Environmental, working as the field services manager on spill response and underground storage tank removal and site remediation. In 1997, she opened her own company, Environmental Response, providing field services to spill response contractors and contracting on underground storage tank removal and remediation sites. In 2008, she opened her second company, Southern Environmental Technologies, to provide field services to clients including engineering design firms, general contractors and government agencies.
