This paper presents the benefits of investing time in a Waste Disposal / Transportation Plan. When notifications are being made, this is not the time to discover how your waste will be managed and your transportation support network should be implemented.  Investing time to understand the regulatory, operational, and economic drivers of a waste disposal/transportation plan in advance ensures compliance with your company’s requirements, while controlling cost.  A well designed plan will receive critical, rapid Incident Command approval and will avoid project delays by getting the proper equipment deployed from the start.

In summary, an effective waste plan ensures compliance with your company waste management philosophy by using only facilities and technologies approved for use by your risk management team.  Pre-planning identifies response partners that can deliver targeted special services like proper USDOT shipping containers, mobile water treatment and bulking for rail transport.  Investing in the transportation and disposal plan now will assist in delivering a safe, compliant and cost-effective solution that meets your waste liability risk matrix.
