Shipping Things That Go BOOM!

Introduction to Explosives Transportation requirements in the United States.

 Abstract

Within the Hazardous Materials Professional community there appears be to a general lack of knowledge surrounding the shipment of materials in Hazard Class 1 – Explosives. While some in the community commonly or never ship these materials, others do so infrequently. Among infrequent shippers, the potential for mistakes can be quite high, and the consequences of these mistakes can be disastrous.

Based on 14 years experience in the Hazardous Materials industry, and 2 years exclusively dealing with Explosives shipments, I have found a lack of available and applicable Function Specific training on Explosives. As a result, I have developed a Function Specific informational training module dealing with an Introduction to Explosives Shipments geared towards Hazardous Materials Professionals and others involved in the handling and shipment of explosives and other energetics.

This training module, when delivered to industry professionals, could go a long way towards decreasing the potential for a disastrous hazardous materials incident in the United States or abroad.
