TITLE- What You Need to Know About RICE

2013

If you have any Reciprocal Internal Combustion Engines (RICE) such as generators, fire pumps, or compressors, you need to pay attention.  Recent federal air regulations revisions have significantly increased the number of RICE units impacted as well as heightened the regulatory awareness of RICE units. The RICE Rule has the potential to impact over 100,000 RICE units and will require impacted facilities to complete notifications, enhanced maintenance and inspections, emission testing, reporting and record keeping.  The bottom line is that all stationary RICE units are subject to various requirements, from only record keeping to demonstrate the unit is exempt to comprehensive notification and testing and monitoring requirements.  It is important to understand this rule to reduce compliance requirements and costs, as well as the potential for violations.

The goal of this presentation is to educate attendees on air regulations impacting the operation of RICE units.  Attendees will be informed on:

What RICE units are subject to air regulations

  • How to determine your requirements
  • What are the RICE requirements including notifications, emission limits, testing, reporting, recordkeeping
  • What you need to do
  • Strategies to reduce compliance costs
  • Control strategies and typical costs
