Biographical Sketch:
Captain Ignacio is a U.S. Public Health Service Officer serving as Deputy Program Director for Chemical Defense within the Office of Health Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security since June 2010. Captain Ignacio has a Master of Arts in Security Studies on Homeland Security and Defense from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA in 2011; a Master in Public Health from UCLA in 1991, and a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with a Chemistry minor from Cal Poly Pomona in 1989. Captain Ignacio is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS). Captain Ignacio is a former chair of the AIHA’s Incident Preparedness and Response Working Group and the former Gas and Vapor Detection Committee. He is the author of the AIHA publication titled Incident Safety and Health Management Handbook and co-edited the 3rd Edition of Strategy for Assessing Occupational Exposures. Captain Ignacio served as a U.S. Public Health Service Officer with the U.S. Coast Guard from 2000 to 2010. Captain Ignacio also served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Service Officer/Environmental Science Officer (ESO) from 1992 to 2000.
