Biographical Sketch: Michael J. Zimmerman has more than 25 years of engineering and environmental regulatory experience and is considered an expert in environmental compliance, auditing, and permitting for air, water, hazardous materials, and hazardous waste issues.
Mr. Zimmerman obtained his bachelors in Chemical Engineering from the University of California Santa Barbara. He served as an officer in the US Air Force in San Antonio, Texas, initially as an Industrial Engineer and secondly as an Environmental Engineer working in the Civil Engineering squadron.
Mr. Zimmerman left the US Air Force in 1990 and returned to California to work as an Environmental Consultant. He has worked for four consulting companies over the last 23 years in the San Francisco Bay Area. Michael is currently the National Practice Leader for Environmental Compliance for Bureau Veritas. He provides Environmental Compliance mentorship and leadership to more than 20 HSE offices across the United States.
Mr. Zimmerman is a Registered Professional Chemical Engineer in three states: California, Oregon, and Washington. He is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) and has also received the following certifications from the BEAC: Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA) and Certified Process Safety Auditor (CPSA). He is also a Bureau Veritas-certified ISO 14001 lead auditor. He completed the training and passed the State exam for the California Qualified SWPPP Developer (QSD)/Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) under the construction general permit regulation requirements.
He has provided environmental compliance and engineering Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) Studies expertise across the United States as well as in foreign countries such as Canada, China, and Saudi Arabia.
Mr. Zimmerman has developed oil Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans for more than 250 facilities, and has completed more than 250 storm water plans for facilities across the United States.
