Biographical Sketch: Zehra Schneider Graham, CHMM, REM - Zehra is the Deputy Director of Environmental Health & Safety at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Zehra has 18 years of environmental health & safety experience. Responsibility for all environmental, health and safety functions, including chemical and biological exposure control programs both in the laboratories (125) and with regard to the staff (3,000) and students (15,000). Program includes: analysis and resolution of Indoor Air Quality issues, Emergency Response/Chemical Spill Control, Asbestos Operations and Maintenance Program, Laser Safety, Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire and Life Safety, Environmental Management and Construction issues and a member of various internal committees. Environmental Management pilot program which culminated in EPA RCRA SubPart K Academic Labs Rule. Participate in University Crisis Management activities.
In 2006 Zehra was elected president of the Campus Consortium for Environmental Excellence (C2E2). C2E2 supports the continued improvement of environmental performance in higher education through environmental professional networking, information exchange, the development of professional resources and tools, and the advancement of innovative regulatory models. Environmental performance includes campus regulatory compliance, environmental management, and sustainability initiatives. Zehra is also active in the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals and has served in a number of leadership positions within the organization including President in 2010 and is currently a Director-at-Large.
Zehra holds a B.S. in Biology and English from Simmons College, an M.S. in Environmental Science from the University of MA Boston and a M.S in Botany from the University of Maine, Orono.
Zehra is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager and a Registered Environmental Manger.
