Where has training taken you?  Design principles for adult-learning and high-performance training

Though most EHS professionals are asked to conduct "training" as part of their responsibilities, many don't quite know what they hope to achieve and how to achieve it.  Many trainers are very hopeful and want to engage their learners.  Often there is alot of "information to cover" and "questions to ask".   Objectives of many stripes, shapes, sizes and colors are created, and in support of those much information is provided.

Nearly all trainers rely primarily on two things to do this.  Both of them are usually wishfull thinking: 1) "I ask alot of questions of the group", 2) "I provide quizes and we review the answers"

From years of observations, I've noted that these are akin to a hail mary pass of the adult learning world, if the goal is to get all particpants engaged.  Only by using  "Engagement by Design" will this happen.  It doesn't require charm, but it does require thought and preparation, at least in the initial phases.

This session will model recognized key elements to effective adult learning.  Through an interactive session, participants will experiece experiential learning and be engaged (by design!)
