Hazardous Waste Before and After – A Win-Win Approach From Sustainable Acquisition to Disposal

With most things, taking the time to create a plan assures a better outcome.  Managing chemicals and hazardous products is no different.  This presentation will discuss the benefits of implementing a cradle to grave program that complies with the regulations and focuses on a win-win outcome.   The win-win process includes the steps of sustainable acquisition, substitution, receipt, storage, chemical tracking, inventory control, reuse, recycling/universal waste options, and hazardous waste disposal.  Hazardous waste planning consists of completing a waste designation, performing a chemical compatibility review, packaging the containers correctly, and assuring the requirements for treatment, disposal and transportation are met. This presentation will build on the assumption that implementation of these planning strategies will provide a win-win outcome that will reduce costs and prevent environmental and safety incidents.  Real-life industry challenges and solutions will be discussed.
