Many companies are interested in developing an ISO 14001 EMS and/or OHSAS 18001 Health & Safety management systems (systems) but are not sure exactly how.  This technical session will take companies through the basic steps to develop their own systems.  The development steps for discussion are as follows:

1)      Baseline Gap Analysis – to evaluate what procedures and programs are currently in place and identify what additional work is needed to develop a system.

2)      Develop Program, Prioritize and Address Gaps –

a.       Determine Scope of system.

b.      Perform Aspect/Impact Analysis, Hazard Risk Identification and Control Analysis for all operations.

c.       Develop procedures required for program.

3)      Internal Auditing and Training – decide who will be on Internal Auditing Team and ensure they are appropriately trained by the Lead Auditor.

4)      Obtain Certification from a RABSQA Certified Registrar

5)      Maintaining System and Certification

We will also cover the benefits of developing these systems and common hurdles encountered while developing and sustaining a developed system.  In a tight economy it is important for companies to utilize the current programs and systems in place when developing a new system (such as utilizing current Safety and Quality System procedures and programs).  This session will help anyone with an interest in developing these systems to become empowered with the knowledge to develop their own systems to meet their specific company needs.
