Biographical Sketch:
Dr.Bangalore S Jai Prakash obtained his MS and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry from Bangalore University, India in 1967 and 1975 repectively. After his Ph.D. he joined Bangalore Institute of Technology in 1980 as a Professor and taught applied Chemsitry to Engineering students and Analytical and Inorganic chemistry and Catalysis to Post graduate students at VV Pura College of Science. He has published over 70 research papers and presentations in conferences. His areas of research work cover catalysis and adsorption by clays and zeolites. He has published three reviews and book chapters on Thermodynamics of clay surfaces, Clays as sustainable green catalysts, and Polymer clay nanocomposites. One more book chapter on Anionic clays is under preparation. He is coauthor of four books on engineering and applied chemistry. Dr. Prakash is recipient of several awards, Hindusthan Platinum award for a paper on catalysis at 12th National Symposium on catalysis held at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, India in 1996, National Parisara Rathna award in 2000, Champion of Excellence award given by Alliance of Hazardous Materials Profesionals (AHMP), USA at their National Conference in the year 2008 held at Minneapolis; in 2009 at the AHMP conference held at San Diego; in 2010 at the AHMP conference held at Atlanta and again in 2011 at Austin. He has successfully completed 5 research projects funded by Department of Science and Technology, and Dept of Atomic Energy, Govt of India . He has guided 5 research students for their Ph.D degrees and two more are submitting their thesis this year for the award of Ph.D. degree. He has one patent to his credit on Anion sieving by modified clays. Dr. Prakash has more than 35 years teaching experience. He worked as a visiting professor at South Coast Air Quality Management District at Los Angeles during 1991. He has widely traveled and has visited many countries in his professional career. Has visited US several times, UK, France, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal and Turkey and has delivered lectures and presented papers. Presently he is the Director of Institute of Environment and Hazardous Materials Management and an adjunct Professor at Porna Prajna Institute of Scientific Research (PPISR) at Bangalore, India. He is also on several committees in the State and Central Government which include - Member of Technical Advisory Committee of State Pollution Control Board, Member of State Environment Appraisal Committee of Minsitry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of india, and Member of Core Committee on Chemical Safety and Disaster Management , Govt of Karnataka.
